Basaltina
The structure and the colour of Basaltina are a gift from lava, earth and time. Known to be frost resistant, for its compressive strength, and its durability, it is suitable for several application. Both for interiors or exteriors: wall cladding, landscaping, interior decoration and etc.. and it will make every project eternal.
Basaltina are composed of minute grains of plagioclase feldspar (generally labradorite), pyroxene, olivine, biotite, hornblende, and less than 20% quartz. The mineral nepheline or leucite may associate or proxy the feldspar giving rise to verities with special names.
Basaltina is a porous material with naturally-occuring holes that may remain unfilled or be factory-filled with resin or cement. Do not use resin-filled materials outside, as the resin will discolor over time.
This material is minimally sensitive to acids. It will not acid etch or lose its surface sheen when exposed to acidic liquids such as lemons or tomatoes.
Due to this material’s Abrasion Resistance rating, color fastness and tensile strength, this material is suitable for all exterior applications where freeze-thaw cycles are a concern.
